

Emergency Preparedness
QMedRx will make every attempt to contact patients in the event of predicted emergency situations to ensure no disruption of care or service occur.
Natural Disasters (Snow storms, Floods, Tornadoes, Hurricanes, Sever Weather or Earthquakes)
Keep on hand at all times in a secure dry location, such as a plastic container:
- Battery operated clock
- Battery operated radio
- Extra batteries
- Flashlights
- Bottled water
- Extra clothes for all family members
- Medications
- Blankets
- Non-perishable foods
- Change for pay phone calls
- Extra cash in the event of ATM/ Bank closures
In the Event of Tornadoes or Tornado Warnings
- Stay tuned to local radio or weather radio for information and updates
- Go to the lowest level of your home
- Find shelter in an inside room away from windows
- Stay in protected area until danger has passed
Using a Medical Device to Administer your Medication
- If your therapy requires life-sustaining equipment, contact your local Electrical Company to be placed on a priority list in case of a prolonged black out.
- Be aware of how long the battery back-up system will allow your equipment to work without power.
- Go to the nearest Emergency Room if power cannot be restored to your home in a timely manner.
- Make sure you have sufficient battery supplies at all times.
In the Event of a Prolonged Power Outage or Predicted Emergency Situation (Brownout or Blackout)
- Listen to local radio stations for updates and evacuation information
- Contact the local Electric Company if you need to be on a priority list.
- Preserve refrigerator temperature by opening the door as little as possible.
- Use an iced cooler to store frozen medications; snow or an alternate ice source (cooler packs) will work.
- Fill a bathtub with water for non-drinking uses.
- Patients with life treating emergencies should go to the local Emergency Room at the nearest hospital.
Evacuations
- Take all your medications, medical paperwork, supplies and pumps with you to the emergency shelter.
- Notify QmedRx that you have been evacuated and the location of your emergency shelter.
