Storage Of Medication and Supplies
The medication and supplies you need for your therapy will be provided on a set delivery schedule. This will be determined by your pharmacist based on lab results or medication expiration dating.
Choose one area in your home to store supplies. The area should be clean, dry, away from pets and children, and in an area where the temperature is consistent. Avoid an area like garage or porch where temperatures may become very hot or cold.
Your medication will arrive packaged in individual doses by the pharmacist. The medication will be placed in a protective outer bag. Use the outer wrap until you have used all the doses in the wrap. This will help to your medication from becoming contaminated.
Many medications require refrigeration. Check the medication label for storage requirements. The medication should be placed in a designated area in the refrigerator away from food that may spill. Check that your refrigerator temperature is constant 34-40 degrees Fahrenheit. At this range lettuce should be stored without freezing and milk should stay without spoiling.
Refrigerated medications should be removed from the refrigerator at least one hour (60 minutes) before your scheduled dose time to allow medication to warm to room temperature.
